Please find a booklet below which sets out what children in this year group are expected to understand and apply by the end of this year in the areas of writing, reading and maths.
In the summer term of Year 6, pupils will take the Standard Assessment Tests (otherwise known as SATs). These tests check your child’s knowledge of the National Curriculum. They are compulsory for Year 6 students and they’re used to assess your child against age-related expectations.
During SATs week, your child will be tested on their English and Maths knowledge.
- English Grammar Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) Paper 1 (short answer questions)
- English GPS Paper 2 (spelling test)
- English Reading Paper
- Mathematics Arithmetic (Paper 1)
- Mathematics Reasoning (Paper 2)
- Mathematics Reasoning (Paper 3)
All tests are marked externally and returned to school. Children receive a scaled score that ranges from 80 to 120, with a score of 100 or more meaning that the child has achieved the expected standard.
They best way to help your child to be ready for SATs is to encourage them to do their homework throughout the year. At St Patrick’s, our children are expected to read and practise their times tables every day so that they become fluent and proficient. We also ask them to learn key facts using their knowledge organisers.
