Sports Leaders

Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 have the opportunity to apply to become a sports leader, a role which brings great responsibility and enjoyment. It is a role which has developed over the past 3 years into one which allows pupils to become role models within the school as well as developing their basic coaching skills in a range of sports.

Our Sports Leaders ensure that playground games and activities are set up every morning break time and that all children are playing co-operatively.  They lead games and look after the outdoor equipment.  The children play an invaluable role in encouraging others to try new games and sports and to feel that they belong in our school family.

Sports leaders develop essential skills for life such as:

  • Communication skills
  • Valuable team working skills
  • Ability to lead others
  • Greater understanding of responsibility
  • Innovative and creative
  • Respect for others

Children who participate in the games benefit from improvements in:

  • Fitness
  • Agility
  • Moral
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Social skills, e.g. turn-taking, supporting others, encouragement

You will spot our sports leaders wearing their red bibs with great pride at morning break time.

What our children say about our Sports Leaders:

“Sports leaders are good for some children. If they have no one to play with, they can do the activities.” (Jayden)

“Our sports leaders help children exercise.” (Tamira)

“I like the sports leaders because when children are bored they can play the games.”  (Daisy)

“I think we should always have sports leaders because they help us with our skills.” (Chloe)

“Our sports leaders are kind and helpful – they give us interesting activities.”  (Alfie)
